IDA Chairman indicated that the number of the 1000 – factory program big factories exceeded 900 factories and it will reach 1000 soon. He also pointed out that in order to provide new industrial zones to fulfill the investors' needs; Shata Industrial Zone will be established on an area of 1000 feddans in Demeitta within 3 months. The lands will be offered to the investors after obtaining the Ministry of Agriculture approval. The lands will be used in establishing specialized furniture city in addition to expansions in Gamasa Industrial Zone
IDA Chairman pointed out that the factories established in Al-Obour city under the 1000-Factory Program had reached 11 factories & 40 expansions, in addition to 503 factories under construction. Concerning the possibility of offering lands for small – scale projects,
IDA Chairman confirmed that 1484 land plots were offered last year on an area of 360.000 m2. 1900 new land plots in Cairo and Upper Egypt governorates will be declared soon. The lands areas vary between 2.000 to 3.000 m2.
The number of establishments related to the furniture industry is estimated at 200.000 industrial establishments employing 1 million workers with $2 billion investments. The furniture annual consumption reaches $1 billion; of which $340 million are local consumption in the residential sector, $215 million in the sectors of tourism and business and $245 million in contractual projects. The exportation value hit $250 million while it hit $309 million during 2008. Furthermore, the furniture factories represent 11.3% of the total of the Egyptian licensed factories.
