Minister of Trade and Industry, attended the conference of the national strategy for doubling the exports (Engineering Industries Sector) in 21/2/2010. The conference was organized by the Export Council of Engineering Industries, headed by Dr. Ahmed Fekry Abdel Wahab, concerning the council's plan to implement the strategy of doubling the engineering exports during the coming 4 years. The conference was attended by IDA Chairman , Adham Nadim, Executive Manager of Industry Modernization Center, and Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, Dr. Hani Barakat in addition to a number of producers and exporters of engineering industries.
Furthermore, Minister of Trade and Industrystated that the development of the markets control system is one of the basic factors of implementing the strategy of doubling the engineering exports during the coming 4 years. He also announced that a committee is about to be established to receive the manufacturers and merchants' complaints concerning any encroachments in the local market. The committee will include representatives of the general Authority for the Control of exports and imports, the Industrial Control Authority, and the competent chamber of industry in order to protect the local market against the illegal practices that badly affect the competitiveness and the serious investors.
Moreover, Minister of Trade and Industrypointed out that it is decided to start the disbursement of the export support that is granted by the Export Development Fund according to the value added to the products starting from the new fiscal year 2010 / 2011, which will start on coming July.
In addition, The minister decided to form a working group from the Specifications and Quality Authority, the Control on Exports and Imports Authority, and representatives of the federations of Industries and Chambers of Commerce to prepare a list of imported goods subject to special oversight and tight before entering the Egyptian market. IDA Chairman confirmed IDA’s attention
to the engineering industries sector where its factories recorded in IDA reached 6041 including 311000 workers.
Moreover, IDA Chairman confirmed that IDA also provided facilities to simplify the procedures for approval of activities for the engineering industries. Therefore, the number of its listed products reached 1843 including 1741 for the engineering projects and the approval for these products issued within only an hour. As for the intensive energy consumption projects, it reached 103 and its approval issued within a week. Concerning the new factories, its temporary industrial register and the operating license issued within two weeks. Besides, there is an electronic system for the renewal of the industrial register from IDA branches.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Fikri Abdul Wahab, chairman of the Council of Exporting Engineering Industries pointed out that the engineering industries sector strategy aims to double exports during the next four years reach from LE10.6 billions in 2009 to LE37.6 billions in 2013. Thus, pumping investments of LE6.5 billions and increasing the number of exporters by 116 is required and this will provide 25000 new jobs.
