Ministry of Trade & Industry, represented in the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), started an initiative to activate the Upper Egypt Development Program, as a main part in the Electoral Program beside activating the cooperation protocol, IDA signed with the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the Association of Egyptian Banks, Industrial Modernization Center, the Social Fund for Development to finance the new projects and the industrial integration for the existing enterprises in Upper Egypt and promoting for them at the great factories all over the country.
Minister of Trade & Industry, Rashid Mohamed Rashid, revealed that factories in Upper Egypt are facing problems in raising the productive capacity and opening new markets so as to operate the halted factories or those working by small energy through dealing with the great industrial sectors.
The new initiative contains 3 main approaches; the 1st approach depends on increasing the productivity of 150 factories in Upper Egypt governorates with investments costs of L.E1.5 billion for providing 7500 new job opportunities with an average of 50 job opportunity for each factory, which consequently leads to raising their competitive capabilities & exporting abilities. The attention will be upon the factories of food, engineering, spinning & textile, chemicals & building materials industries.
The 2nd one cared about completing the infrastructure of industrial zones in Upper Egypt governorates; Beni Sueif, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Aswan, and The New Valley, knowing that L.E166 million was spent by IDA's Fund for Subsidizing Establishment, Servicing and Development of Industrial Zones.
The 3rd concerned about the great industrial projects which have been approved in Upper Egypt, containing the establishment of 10 great industrial projects in the sectors of cement, iron, and phosphatic fertilizer with investment costs of L.E12.1 billion besides 13 projects of heavy-industries under study with investment costs estimated at L.E8.3 approximately.
Assal stated that the activation of this protocol will be carried out by holding workshops for each industrial sector between businessmen & the industrial investors who have high exporting capabilities from one side, and between the Upper Egypt industries' owners from the other side to benefit from their products or contributing in marketing and exporting them.
