Industrial Development Authority (IDA) Offers 8 New Licenses for Continuous Casting Billet Production with a Total Capacity of 2.8 Million Tons Annually

The Industrial Development Authority (IDA) announced the issuance of 8 new licenses for manufacturing iron and steel products, specifically continuous casting billets, with a total production capacity of 2.8 million tons per year. This comes in execution of the directives of Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, who recently announced this strategic offering to secure raw materials for all national factories, aligning with the Ministry's vision to deepen local manufacturing and strengthen value chains within the iron and steel sector.
Dr. Nahed Youssef, Chairperson of IDA, explained that this initiative aims to increase domestic production capacity of steel billets, thereby fulfilling the essential requirements of national re-rolling mills, deepening local industry, reducing reliance on imports, and saving foreign currency. Additionally, it enhances the investment competitiveness of the iron and steel industry in the Egyptian market. She noted that the offering includes 4 licenses with a production capacity of 500,000 tons each, and another 4 licenses with a capacity of 200,000 tons each, totaling 2.8 million tons annually.
Dr. Nahed Youssef pointed out that IDA is operating under the Minister of Industry's directives to foster industrial integration within the metallurgical sector by encouraging investment in primary and feeder industries. This ensures a sustainable supply of production inputs and increases added value. The chairperson affirmed IDA's commitment to overcoming all obstacles facing investors seeking to enter this strategic sector, while providing the necessary facilitations to attract new investments.
The IDA Chairprrson invited companies wishing to apply for the tender to purchase the Conditions and Specifications Booklet from IDA headquarters in the Fifth Settlement, available from August 11 to August 20, 2026. She concluded her statements by highlighting that the deadline for submitting offers is Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 12:00 PM (Noon), stressing that any prior applications submitted to IDA regarding this matter before this announcement will not be considered.
